The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, conducted annually in San Diego during the last week in January, is a physical count of all homeless persons who are living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens and on the streets on a single night. This count provides a snapshot of homelessness on a single night. The PIT is the result of extraordinary community collaboration and includes a countywide effort to engage and assess the unsheltered population. As a volunteer for the unsheltered segment of the WeAllCount, your involvement will kick off on the morning of January 30, 2025. You will join a team of over 1700 volunteers to canvass the entire San Diego County, reaching out to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness. By conducting a brief survey and taking a headcount, you will help ensure their experiences are counted, their voices matter, and their needs are better understood.
RTFH follows HUD’s guidance around how to handle data during and after research projects, and in June of 2024 RTFH requested clarifications from HUD on data sharing. A summary of HUD’s response along with the agency’s full response to RTFH’s questions can be found here.
RTFH Statement on the Supreme Court’s Ruling in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson
Who is Falling Into Homelessness and Who is Exiting the System? In the 12 month period between 10/23 and 9/24, ten people found housing for every fourteen people who experienced homelessness for the first time.
The Regional Task Force on Homelessness unveiled its first-ever Regional Community Action Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness in San Diego (aka the “Regional Plan”) through a housing-focused, equity-driven, and person-centered system of care. The new plan sets forth a shared vision, identifies system and resource gaps, and promotes evidence-based approaches with the goal of ending homelessness in the next five years in our region. This “Plan of Plans” incorporates federal, state and local plans to streamline the San Diego region’s needs and create implementable solutions.
